Symptoms of Cholera
If you suffer from Cholera it is often times caused by an infection within your intestine. The infection its self is often times mild, resulting in minor or no symptoms. However as with most medical conditions, there are case of severe infections. An individual could get cholera from drinking or even eating anything that is contaminated with the cholera bacteria. Often times the contaminated substance consists or has come in contact with feces from an infected individual. This is why cholera is often times spread due to inadequate treatment of sewage and the treatment of drinking water. Some cases show that shellfish that have been consumed raw, may also lead to cholera.
Coming in direct contact with an individual who has cholera does not often increase your chances of catching the cholera bacteria. However if there is a lack of sanitation the chance increases slightly.
Some of the known symptoms that only about one of every twenty infected individual experience consist of, vomiting, leg cramps, and severe diarrhea (often times watery). One of the main concerns with cholera is the rapid lose of body fluids. This can be a result of the diarrhea and vomiting. If an individual loses their body fluids rapidly it can lead to dehydration and even shock. This is why its extremely important to see medical help. If proper help is not sought out it can be fatal.
Since the United States improved their treatment systems, there have been far fewer cases recorded each year. If the infected individual seeks the proper medical help, the treatment of cholera can be as simple as replacing all the bodily fluids lost.
Although medications help reduce the loss of fluids it is not nearly as important as replacing the fluids lost due to the cholera bacteria. Without the proper fluids your body will begin to shut down, which is why it become fatal if not properly treated. Be sure to see your doctor as soon as possible, if you believe you are suffering from cholera.
